The objective of this course is to provide students with an advanced and comprehensive understanding of the Islamic political system based on the Qur’an, Sunnah, and historical practice of early Islamic governance. The course aims to critically examine political Tafseer, the political dimensions of the Seerah, the methodologies of the Prophets AS the governance approaches of the Sahaba RA, the structure and principles of the Rightly Guided Caliphate, and classical and contemporary Hadith related to statecraft and governance.
Students will be equipped to analyze Islamic political thought in its original sources and historical contexts while engaging with modern political challenges from an Islamic perspective. The course seeks to develop intellectual rigor, research competency, and critical thinking to compare Islamic political principles with contemporary political systems and ideologies globally. Emphasis is placed on leadership, justice, sovereignty, consultation (Shura), law, citizenship, public welfare, and international relations in Islam.
