The mutual defense pact signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on 17 September 2025 can be considered a once-in-a-generation opportunity. It offers the younger generation a real seat at the larger table of regional decision-making. By pooling military and financial resources, this agreement has the potential to bring significant peace and prosperity to both nations. Pakistan has already sought $6.46 billion from Riyadh for FY2025-26 (in the form of deposits, deferred oil payments, and financial assistance), underscoring the pact’s practical economic dimension.
This moment should inspire confidence, not hesitation and fear. It is a chance to address our most pressing domestic challenges - education, healthcare, and infrastructure - so that the quality of life for ordinary citizens truly improves. The logic is simple: a lone tree may fall in a storm, but a forest endures. Expanding this pact to include other Gulf and Muslim states would only magnify its benefits.
As Aristotle noted, “A friend to all is a friend to none.” Real friendship requires selectivity, trust, and loyalty. Recent regional events have exposed the limits of external guarantees, with U.S. assurances under the GCC contrasting sharply with the reality of strikes and instability. In this light, the Saudi - Pakistan collaboration is more than symbolic - it is a practical step toward genuine security and solidarity.
