The story of Sumayyah bint Khayyat RA is not only about being the first martyr in Islam, but also a timeless example of emotional resilience and inner strength. This decision reflects her self-awareness. she knew the truth in her heart and chose to remain loyal to it, even at the cost of her life.
When her family faced torture and persecution, Sumayyah RA showed remarkable self-management. Despite unbearable pain, she remained steadfast in her faith. Emotional intelligence here means not letting fear or suffering shake one’s deepest values.
Her choice of Islam also demonstrates social awareness. In a society divided by race, gender, and class, she recognized the beauty of a faith that honored human dignity and equality. She could see beyond worldly labels and connected with the essence of humanity.
