Imagine standing in front of Allah with your family, friends, colleagues, angels, and all of mankind in a vast ground. Your life movie is being projected on the big screens—your cheating, your sins, your dishonesty, your lies—everything is exposed. You are embarrassed, unable to face anyone. But unfortunately, on that day you won’t be able to lower your head to avoid this humiliation.
What will be your inner state, your feelings, when your beloved ones are watching your true self? What will be your biggest regret, your greatest desire at that moment? To go back to the world and change your story, change your actions—but you will not be able to do so.
My friends, this is the greatest reality of our lives. This embarrassment is something even the Prophets prayed to be protected from. Allah mentions in the Qur’an the dua of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.): “Do not disgrace me on the Day of Resurrection
Embarrassment is a very powerful emotion. A person is deeply afraid of being exposed, humiliated, or disgraced. In this world, when we trip in public or make a mistake that others notice, our cheeks suddenly blush, our heart starts racing, and we wish the ground would swallow us.
The embarrassment we feel at that moment is not only painful, but the incident also lingers in our memory. Every time we recall it, the same feelings return. To avoid this, everyone develops different escape routes—some people distract themselves with their mobile phones or other things to escape this uncomfortable feeling.
Islam reframes embarrassment into a moral teacher. The blush of shame we feel after committing a sin is a gift—it protects us from the disgrace we would otherwise face in the Hereafter. But if we ignore it and continue to sin shamelessly, then over time we become desensitized. Sin starts to feel casual, and we lose our ability to feel guilt. This ultimately leads to unbearable embarrassment in front of Allah, His angels, and all of mankind.
So, while our book of deeds is still open, we have time. Ask Allah for forgiveness and change your path.
