Prime minister Shahbaz sharif visited Saudia Arabia and announce a ‘Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement’. this agreement starts a relationship b/w KSA and Pak that ‘any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both.’
The agreement is unprecedented for many reasons. The language of the pact indicates that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are aiming to elevate bilateral military cooperation to a whole new level.
In defense circles, this agreement is being referred to as “Article Five,” a term used among NATO member which states: " that an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all" , it means the pact of ‘Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement’ between KSA and Pak is organizing the Muslim’s NATO.
“The new pact with Pakistan may be Riyadh’s way of signaling some unease to Washington". The announcement could convey Riyadh’s growing alarm over whether the US’s informal security guarantees to its Gulf allies are robust enough. These concerns are likely to have worsened due to the Trump administration only giving Israel a light rebuke following its strike on Doha. This is despite Qatar being a close ally of Washington that hosts US troops at the Al Udeid airbase.
Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, speaking to journalists in London on Saturday, hinted that other Gulf states are interested in joining the strategic pact but declined to share further details.
