What's the purpose behind writing?
Before being smothered under dark clouds of heavy expectations and superficial standards, let’s clarify why we’re writing in the first place. This will allow us to shift the focus from our efforts to seeing the bigger picture and approach writing purposefully.
So what's the purpose behind writing? Words have power. We feel the effect of words easily when someone speaks to us kindly compared to using harsh words. The pervasive power of words which shaped our childhood are palpable throughout our adult lives, influencing our emotions and guiding our unconscious decisions.
Writing is an avenue to exploring these thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
We are in effect engaged in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as an ummah. Through this process, we can notice how we think and change it to create positive behaviours and actions.

Writing helps us progress in our journey of developing self-discipline and self-awareness. Moreover, through our writing on key and relevant problems, experiences and possible solutions of the Muslims around the world, we are raising the intellectual levels and expectations.
Shaytan attacks us by creating doubts and waswasah in our minds regarding the actual worth, benefit or impact of our puny efforts. This is where we need to remember to ignore the myriad internal defeatist voices which create a hum of discontent and may result in complete abandonment of the task.
We write to learn, we write to be heard and we write so we follow the divine sunnah of Allah SWT who is also an author. We must reinforce this habit to continue progressing and uplifting the ummah.
