What is self awareness and why is it needed?
Self awareness is a skill and a practice that helps you understand your behaviour, emotions and thought patterns. It helps you know yourself better and understand the way your mind works. There are two types, internal and external self awareness. Internal self awareness is to know your interests, thoughts, emotions, values and needs. External self awareness is to know how others perceive you.
Why is it important to be self aware? Self aware people have more empathy and they possess better leadership qualities. These people can communicate properly which leads to more self confidence and career success. Even the personal life of a self-aware person is better than that of a non-self-aware person. They perform well in personal relationships because of empathy, they understand the emotions of others which leads to better understanding hence better relations. With awareness of one's thoughts and feelings mental health improves because one is able to understand and control his feelings and thoughts. Another super power that self aware people have is self acceptance, they are familiar with their strengths, weaknesses and their limitations which eventually leads to personal growth and improved mental health.
