Quick Wins, Sacred Losses
Every day she makes sure to have her morning coffee, she takes her time to get ready so she looks presentable at work, completing tasks before the deadline is a priority for her otherwise that promotion could be at stake. She never misses a good deal on a sale and could never skip a meal. Her routine gives a sense of accomplishment, happiness and confidence. But there is something that bothers her, it’s “ the call to prayer “.
She stops for a second and says to herself, “ let me quickly get done with salah” , other days she says, “I’ll pray later, let me finish this first”. So she rushes through it and says “ Ah, im done with my prayer”.
Excitement, happiness, appreciation are feelings one experiences when dopamine is released.
Dopamine is a brain chemical that plays a key role in motivation, pleasure, and the feeling of reward.
When a person is constantly engaged in activities that releases dopamine, he is getting a continuous dose of fulfillment which can create a cycle of dependency, while that might help the person feel motivated it can over time lead to addiction & frustration when that stimulation is missing.
These experiences can reduce important obligations like salah to quick dopamine-driven checklist items and without even realising we start treating it just like another task.
