In 1947, when Pakistan was a newly born state, Saudi Arabia was the first country to recognize it. One cannot say that the recent Pak–KSA pact is a reaction to Qatar’s attacks; in fact, it had been under consideration for a long time. Both countries have shared a strong defense relationship for decades.
If someone claims that Pakistan is trying to pull Saudi Arabia away from its relationship with India, the answer is no. Pakistan has its own independent and time-tested relationship with the Kingdom. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also called for an Arab-Islamic task force to counter Israel’s aggression in the region, which clearly shows this pact has nothing to do with India.
Moreover, the doors are not closed for other Muslim states to join, sending a strong signal towards the creation of an “Islamic NATO.” There are already expressions of interest from other nations.
If we look at the United Nations, it has failed to perform as people expected especially regarding the Kashmir and Palestine issues. The UN has often served selective agendas, not the Muslim world’s collective cause. Therefore, this pact symbolizes a historic power shift where strength and leadership are now gradually moving towards the East.
