PAK-KSA SMDA, What danger made us realize the need for this move?
The Pakistan–Saudi Arabia pact has been signed, but the real question to consider is what were the underlying reasons and motivations that formed the foundation of this agreement? It had become essential to build a defensive barrier against Israel’s growing aggression in the Middle East and Gulf region, as the primary threat to the region’s stability stems from Israel. Like an unbridled horse, Israel has been attempting to establish its dominance across the entire Middle East.
Another major factor was the Israeli attack on Doha on September 9, 2025. Before that, Israel had already carried out strikes on Iran, Syria, Yemen, and several other countries. The attack on Doha, Qatar, shook the Saudi Arabia–U.S. defense pact to its core because, just a few months earlier in May, multiple defense and trade agreements had been signed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar with Donald Trump’s administration. These countries had been heavily dependent on the United States for their defense and security.
This incident made Middle Eastern nations realize that the war would not remain confined to Palestine—sooner or later, each country could become the next target. Therefore, it became crucial to shift defense dependencies away from the U.S. and take independent control of regional security matters, ensuring that no external power could blackmail them in the future.
Due to Israel’s frequent airstrikes, the entire region had already been destabilized. To strengthen regional security, establishing a mutual defense cooperation framework became imperative. For lasting peace, the concept of a “Muslim NATO” or a Muslim defense bloc was viewed as essential—one that could balance regional power and stabilize nuclear and strategic deterrence without relying on external actors for protection.
In this context, Pakistan has positioned itself as a responsible security partner.
Now, an important question arises: what potential impact will this pact have on Palestine, and what key considerations must be kept in mind moving forward? We will discuss these points in next week’s article.
Until then, I would appreciate it if you shared your insights and analysis with me.
