Metacognition, often defined as ""thinking about thinking" is the awarness and recognition of ones own cognitive process such as memory, attention and problem solving.
Its has two parts,
Metacognition knowledge: Understanding your own cognitive strengths and weeknesses,the task requirements and which strategy to apply.
Metacognition Regulation : The active management of thinking ,it occurs in three-stage cycles:
Planing : selecting goals and strategies
Monitering: tracking comprehention and performance during task
Evaluating: Assessing the final outcome, effevtivesness of strategy
Benefits: Improved learning , effective problem solving, academic success and emotional regulation.
Techniques to develop it
Thinking aloud : vocalizing thought processes,while working through problem
Reflective journaling : Asking questions like what went well? What was challenging ? What could i do differently next time.
Self assesment : Evaluating ones own preparation and performance.

Tafakur- contemplation
Muhasbah- self accounting
Muraqabah- God conciousness
