Although honey Bees are among the smallest creatures, their navigation system displays surprising accuracy. Research shows that honeybees navigate not by random flight, but by following linear features in the landscape—such as roads, rivers, or field boundaries—that they have memorized from their home-environment. Scientists tracked 50 forager bees using harmonic radar and found that, even in unfamiliar locations, bees tended to align their flight paths with parallel irrigation channels in the area. Interestingly, they did this even when more than 30m away—beyond visible range—suggesting they used an internalized map of linear features instead of direct-sight.
This shows that bees possess a form of generalized navigation memory. Generalized navigation memory means that animals — in this case, honeybees— don’t just remember one specific route or location, but understands and applies general patterns or rules it has learned from experience to find its way in new places.
And your Lord inspired the bees: “Make ˹your˺ homes in the mountains, the trees, and in what people construct, and feed from ˹the flower of˺ any fruit ˹you please˺ and follow the ways your Lord has made easy for you.” (16:68-9)
These verses were revealed in the context of the bee, showing that Allah provides sustenance as well as an internal GPS to bees. The study’s findings illustrate that this “way made easy” is quite literal—bees are equipped with memory pathways that simplify their journeys. Thus, modern science now uncovered what the Qur’an declared centuries ago, proving that the Holy Quran is the absolute source of all knowledge.
"This is the Book! There is no doubt about it—a guide for those mindful of Allah" (2:2)
Reference; Bees follow linear landmarks to find their way home, just like the first pilots
