Redrawing the Map: Pakistan-Saudi Alliance and the Global Power Shift
The defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has been sealed, though its details remain undisclosed. This unexpected development has left global powers—especially the United States and the United Kingdom—scrambling to decode its implications. In response, both countries hosted the Pakistani Prime Minister and Army Chief, signaling concern over what some Western leaders are calling the rise of a new Muslim bloc .
At the heart of this pact lies strategic military convergence. Pakistan now has access to Saudi airbases, significantly enhancing the security of both nations. This access, coupled with advanced fighter jets previously supplied to Saudi Arabia by the U.S., gives Pakistan a formidable aerial edge. The Pakistani Air Force, proven in its recent 7-0 tactical success against India, brings elite training and combat readiness to the alliance. For any adversary, attacking Pakistan has become a far more complex and risky proposition.
Beyond defence, the pact carries economic ripple effects. Enhanced security has boosted investor confidence, and trade is expected to flourish. Pakistan’s strategic aperture has widened, allowing it to monitor regional threats, including Israeli movements. In case of misadventure, Pakistan is now better prepared to respond.
Diplomatically, this alliance shifts the regional balance. If Pakistan or Saudi Arabia hosts a platform to resolve the Palestine issue, Israel would find retaliation difficult. Arab nations are reconsidering their reliance on the U.S., especially after its failure to shield allies from Israeli aggression. Qatar must now consider joining the pact for its own survival.
This pact is a milestone toward a global power shift. If Pakistan leads with a bold stance on Palestine, it could rally support from Qatar, Türkiye, and Malaysia. China, lacking overseas bases, may back this bloc to challenge U.S. dominance. A Muslim bloc supported by China could confront the West head-on. In such a scenario, Palestine’s occupation might finally be challenged with real might, and Muslim nations would no longer need to plead before the UN rather they would have the strength to implement justice.
