Preventing young generations and children from drifting away from Islam requires more than knowledge; it demands a set of personal and social skills rooted in self-awareness, empathy, and ethical responsibility. The first step is self-accountability, which involves reflecting on fundamental questions: why we were created, what our responsibilities are, and whether we are truly fulfilling the mission entrusted to us. Without honestly evaluating our actions and correcting our shortcomings, our efforts to guide others remain ineffective. Equally important is developing sincere love for Allah, which motivates individuals to prioritize His pleasure, avoid actions that displease Him, and willingly make personal sacrifices for the sake of ethical and spiritual growth.
Empathy is another crucial skill, as it allows us to understand and feel the struggles of others, think selflessly about their well-being, and set aside ego and pride. The Prophet ﷺ exemplified empathy in training his companions, whose commitment ensured the continuation and spread of Islam. Truthfulness is closely connected; being honest with oneself and others builds credibility and strengthens the ability to influence positively. Similarly, discernment, enables individuals to distinguish truth from falsehood, but it is attained only through God-consciousness and sincere devotion.
Self-purification, is essential to eliminate negative traits such as jealousy, deceit, and hypocrisy while cultivating virtues that illuminate the heart and guide our actions. Working in teams and learning from one another ensures that no individual’s limitations hinder the collective mission of promoting Islamic values. Finally, influencing the majority is vital, as young minds are shaped by societal norms. By actively embodying ethical behavior and demonstrating commitment to Islam, we create a positive example for others. Strengthening ourselves spiritually and morally allows us to guide future generations along the straight path, ensuring that our efforts meaningfully preserve and promote Islamic values in society.
