The recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, addressed internationally as a “landmark peace initiative” under Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan, has left the Muslim world with deep unease. While Pakistan’s leadership welcomed it as a “historic step” (Arab News), the reality beneath this diplomatic applause tells a far more distressing story. For many Muslims, this peace agreement feels less like reconciliation and more like a surrender a painful compromise forced upon the oppressed under the guise of global harmony (Al Jazeera).
From the beginning, the disparity in power is evident. The document was authored and presented by the U.S., not by the directly affected nations. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar himself admitted, “This is not our document” (TRT World). The terms are alarmingly one-sided Israel is to withdraw “to agreed lines,” with no concrete definition, while Hamas is compelled to leave Gaza defenseless and vulnerable. Such provisions do not heal wounds they deepen them, perpetuating inequality and legitimizing coercion. Peace without justice is merely the silence of the oppressed.
For Muslims worldwide, this episode is spiritually and emotionally painful to witness. Islam defines peace not as the absence of war, but as the presence of justice. The Qur’an commands:
“O you who believe! Be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves” (Surah An-Nisa 4:135).
Peace built on imbalance, fear, and silence betrays this divine principle. True peace will come not through imposed deals but through fairness, accountability, and respect for human dignity. Until then, what is celebrated as peace will remain, in essence, an injustice that wounds the conscience of humanity and the heart of the Muslim Ummah.
