Hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said," Verily, the first of what Allah created was the Pen. He said to it: Write. It said: My Lord, what shall I write? He (Allah) said: Write the decree and whatever will throughout eternity".
In Surah Al-Qalam, Allah defends Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) character and emphasizes the importance of having patience. It also warns against being arrogant, stingy and ungrateful. The Surah highlights divine justice and promotes being grateful to Allah and to acknowledge Allah's will in all planning.
Holistic emotions:
Surah Al-Qalam provides a landscape of emotions and feelings from:
1. Fear to hope
2. Being proud, greedy to feeling guilty, regret to further embarrassment promoting Self-Awareness.
3. Distress to being blessed.
4. Being self-accountable.
The concluding verses of the Surah shows a sense of divine protection.
Attribute of Allah:
Ayat number 42 mentions Allah's Shin being exposed (uncovered). " The Day the Shin shall be laid bare (uncovered)."
Hadith:
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) mentioned, (on the Day of Judgement), " Our Lord will expose His Shin." (Sahih al-Bukhari)
When this happens, all believers will bow down to Allah, but the backs of the disbelievers and hypocrites will become stiff and rigid, like a piece of wood, making it impossible for them to bow, hence being exposed before the entire creation.
Conclusion:
The key lessons include:
1. Seeking protection from the evil eye.
2. Being grateful and to rely on Allah's will.
3. Warning against arrogance and stinginess.
4. To be helpful towards the needy and the poor.
5. Self awareness and self accountability leads towards making the right decisions. Being mentally present, knowing where and what you did wrong is the key. The key towards Allah's doors of repentance
6. Al-Qalam, the Pen, inscribed all happenings (Past, present and future) on the Preserved Tablet (Loh-e-Mehfooz). Qadar (destiny/decree) can be changed after repentance and sincere Dua by Allah's will.
