Iqbal Rahimullah says;
تیرے عشق کی انتہا چاہتا ہوں
میری سادگی دیکھ کیا چاہتا ہوں۔
We often take these poetic lines lightly, but their depth takes us to a higher purpose. But how?
Humans run on fear and fascination almost in every aspect of their lives, and it is also endorsed by the Quran when Allah talks about the Jannah and Jahanum, our fear and fascination are being hit on. And Makki Surahs are full of descriptions of Jannah and Jahanum, even a seerah writer Ali Muhammad As Salabee wrote in his book about Jannah and Jahanum as a purpose setter by invoking fascination and fear,and he described that it was the important part of tarbiha of sahabas. But Imam Ghazali in his book Ihaya ul uloom deen says that it is the first level of purpose regarding akhira, and then he talked about the highest level and you know what it is? It is to seek the love of Beloved, the Rab ul Alameen. It is the longing to meet Allah on the day of judgement. It is to strive to please the Beloved.How come it is the higher purpose? We find it in the Quran when Allah says,
قُل إِنّ صَلاَتِى وَنُسُكِى وَ مَحيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِى لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ا لعَلَمِينَ
Say, "Surely my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are all for Allah-Lord of all worlds.
This is the higher purpose, when Allah becomes everything for you. When your every action becomes the Ibadah, you breathe for Allah, you eat for Allah, you sleep for Allah, you live for Allah and you die for Allah. It was the purpose of Rasoolullah Salallhu Alayhi wasallam. Imam Anwar al Awalki in his Seerah lecture said that it is the true self-actualization, when he talked about the dua of Hazrat Ibraheem when he was leaving Hajar alayha sallam and Ismail alayhi salam in the barren land of Makkah, " Our Lord! I have settled some of my offspring in a barren valley, near Your Sacred House, our Lord, so that they may establish prayer. So make the hearts of ˹believing˺ people incline towards them and provide them with fruits, so perhaps they will be thankful." Surah Ibraheem 37
Humans have inclinations toward sins but when Allah becomes the purpose we do sins but, before sin, this very thought comes to mind, what will Allah think of me? Will my reputation in the eyes of Allah be tainted? And these thoughts reflect in our repentance after sins too. When these thoughts come in repentance, the person feels so much grief, thinking that I have became one step distant from my Rab, what if Allah abandon me and devoid me of His mercy, where will I go? Lets take a step further and imagine a life where Allah’s love is our life’s purpose what kind of life will it be? I will leave the answer to your imaginations, but one thing I will say that everyone’s perception may give a unique answer but the goal will be the same, to be welcomed by Allah and Rasoolullah salallahu alayhi wasallam on the day of judgement.
