From an Islamic perspective, emotional intelligence is not only about control but also alignment with the (qalb). Allah says: “Indeed, that is a reminder for whoever has a heart…” (Qur’an 50:37). The Prophet ﷺ said: “In the body there is a piece of flesh… if it is sound, the whole body is sound” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim). Thus, emotions are guided toward what pleases Allah involves a concious transformation where emotions are not supressed but redirected to serve the purpose. Anchoring the heart in divine love rather than fluctuating with worldly circumstances.
Effective Communication
EI helps express thoughts clearly. Allah says: “Speak to people good words” (Qur’an 2:83).
Empathy and Understanding
Empathy builds trust. The Prophet ﷺ said: True faith requires desiring for others what you desire for yourself .
Conflict Resolution
EI helps remain calm. Allah says: “Those who control anger and pardon people” (Qur’an 3:134).
Emotional Support
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah is in the aid of His servant as long as the servant is in the aid of his brother” (Sahih Muslim).
Respect and Validation
Allah says: “Do not ridicule one another…” (Qur’an 49:11).
Adaptability
(29:69): "And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways."
Conclusion:
Emotional intelligence improves relationships, but when guided by revelation, it strengthens both character and connection with Allah.
