Amazing ! Most of the time we see one of a kind, magnificent, huge, unique piece of architecture in pictures and tours of masjids all over the world on social media. The stunning images inside and outside, beautiful and huge, fill our hearts with joy and pride.
But wait a second, have you ever wanted to know more and participate more.There is no website of their own. Shocking! Isn't it. Just a location map!
In the world of technology where there is an online presence of almost everybody and everything in this world, we are just relying on loud speakers and a map to explore our masjids.
There is no second opinion on the fact that the masjids at the time of Hazrat Muhammad (May peace be upon him) were the multi functional spaces for spirituality, counselling, leadership, learning, charity, social gatherings, court of justice and politics. But today most of the masjids in muslim nations do not provide any information on the activities inside the masjids. No doubt they are still the center of learning and prayers, if not all of the above mentioned list but they lack online presence. Think as a traveller, a new family in the neighbourhood, a young person who is searching everything on social media.
Surprisingly the Imams have online presence, their own vlogs, blogs and youtube channels, media presence but the masjid are running on the old style where the information and prayer times are posted inside on the notice board. You have to travel there to get any information.
Rapid change in the media calls for the masjids to get noticed.The role of masjids is to engage and empower youth is increasingly important.They seek guidance and need a sense of belonging there.
The masjids, no matter how small it is, need to be noticed and connect the muslims in a small and large scale. A website with prayer timings, class timings, counselling information and all the other activities should be fully posted and maintained continuously.
Let’s make it easy for our people, especially the young generation.The info should be a “click away”. Take the first step and grasp an opportunity for sadqa-e-jaria.
